We are all Mums who work. How we define what that work is, does not lend itself to what society says, what family expectations are or how we compare ourselves to other mothers. What work looks like for me could be very different for you. Today, for me, work looks like a chilly train platform at silly o’clock and a commute to London. Tomorrow it will be a call with my website designer and a play date at the park (don’t you just love an inset day? 🤔). The point is we all mother differently and we all work differently. We do what suits us. And that’s all that really matters.

Working in a team that puts all its focus on the learning and leadership development of others at Unilever is hugely rewarding, challenging and quite frankly an eye opener at times. And this is why it was fantastic to step away from focusing outwards to focus inwards. I’ve just spent a couple of days at our beautiful venue in Four Acres Centre of Leadership (Archived) with some awesome peers, thought leaders and friends channeling insight engine, power of one, spark and of course a large dollop of AI. By taking time to step away, focus on my own capability building (and that of my team’s), I feel better equipt to invest, guide and deliver for our Marketers at Unilever. Thank you Anandi Shankar and Kathryn Calder amongst many others for recognising the importance of such investment in your own people and team. And a special shout out to #UnileverMarketingAcademy you lot bring the Boom! as the awesome Scott Morrison FRSA would say!

This weekend, I got invited to talk about female empowerment as part of the celebrations for International Women's Day. I couldn't wait to share some tools and techniques, to inspire and to motivate.But my goodness, I was blown away by what I got back.These women are fierce.They are strong.They have a voice and they will use it.They channel their emotional energy - positively.They value connection.But most importantly what I experienced was how they embraced the opportunity to raise one another up.They showed up to listen, to learn and to hold space for themselves. Even if just for an hour or two.I love speaking at events like this.You can literally feel the buzz in the room.Change is coming.And I'm so grateful I get to be a part of that change.SPPT
