I am a big supporter of children’s healthy nutrition. Perhaps it stems from my on-going goal to ensure my kids are not modern day pirates (offering them an assortment of healthy, balanced, meals to prevent scurvy! lol). Which is why I’m sharing this T-fal Actifry Meatball Recipe – because it is a healthy version of a family favourite (cooked in only 20 minutes!)

Great for family dinners, potlucks & parties – these sweet & sour meatballs are a healthy and yummy choice. Cook for only 20 minutes in a T-Fal Actifry.

Ingredients

  • • 36 frozen lean beef or turkey meatballs
  • • 1 each, red and green pepper, cubed
  • • 1 cup fresh or frozen mango chunks
  • • 1/2 cup (125 mL) water
  • • 4 Actifry spoons of ketchup
  • • 1 Actifry spoon of each: mustard, maple syrup or brown sugar, cider vinegar, grated onion
  • • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • • Chopped fresh coriander leaves (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place meatballs, peppers and mango in Actifry pan.
  2. Whisk water, ketchup, mustard, maple syrup, vinegar, onion, garlic and cornstarch. Add to Actifry pan.
  3. Cook for 20 minutes or until meatballs are cooked through and sauce is thickened (add more water if sauce becomes too thick). Garnish with coriander if desired.

TIP: Make your own meatballs instead of using frozen. You can use fresh lean beef or turkey – freeze and then you have homemade meatballs for this T-fal Actifry Meatball Recipe whenever you need.

To help parents ensure the development of healthy lifestyle changes the T-fal cookware brand is launching their annual award-winning Healthy Cooking for Healthy Kids Program. The 30-day challenge runs throughout the month of March, offering free printable resources including kid-friendly recipes, portion control place mats (I really like these – visually appealing and fun for kids), grocery lists and healthy living charts (I like how the healthy living reward chart breaks down how much activity you need to burn off calories from things like a piece of pizza), all available on http://www.t-fal.ca/nutritionmonth.

Healthy lifestyle choices are simplified when you have appliances that make preparing delicious, healthy foods easy. The T-fal Actifry allows you to prepare all of your kid’s favourite dishes at home, like chicken nuggets and french fries, using only 1 tablespoon of cooking oil (look for low-fat oils such as canola or grapeseed). This cuts down on fat content and overall calories, preventing the risk of heart disease, diabetes and obesity.

I love my Actifry and recommend it to everyone. I bought it because it makes things crispy without using a lot of oil. I love how my fries turn out. So golden and crispy. I’ve cooked many things in my Actifry but never meatballs. Thanks so much for the idea and recipe. So excited that I now have a new recipe to try!
